Geen Solar Race in Australië,
wel nieuwe uitdagingen! 🦘

Afgelopen jaar heeft de opkomst van het Covid-19 virus al voor heel wat veranderingen en aanpassingen gezorgd, ook voor ons team was dit niet anders. Sinds het begin van de zomer werkt ons team aan de negende Belgische zonnewagen - de opvolger van de BluePoint - met als doel onze wereldtitel te verdedigen op het tweejaarlijkse wereldkampioenschap in Australië. Deze unieke race van 3021 kilometer, die beter bekend staat als de Bridgestone World Solar Challenge, is een spannende uitdaging waarbij studententeams van topuniversiteiten van over de hele wereld het tegen elkaar opnemen om als eerste de Australische Outback te doorkruisen. Deze week heeft de organisatie van de race jammer genoeg de beslissing genomen om de Bridgestone World Solar Challenge niet te laten plaatsvinden dit jaar. De volgende editie van het wereldkampioenschap staat gepland voor 2023.

Een enorme tegenslag voor ons team dat vol enthousiasme gestart was met het ontwerpen van de volgende zonnewagen, met de positieve hoop dat het wereldkampioenschap zou kunnen plaatsvinden volgende zomer.

Dit spijtige nieuws betekent echter niet dat ons team zal stilzitten in de komende maanden. Binnen enkele weken starten we met de productie van de volgende zonnewagen, een wagen die nog beter en performanter zal zijn dan al haar voorgangers. Innoveren en nieuwe technologieën ontwikkelen voor de toekomstige generaties blijven een grote drijfveer voor het team. Bovenal willen we met het bouwen van de volgende Belgische zonnewagen aantonen dat er heel wat toekomst zit in duurzame energie en duurzame mobiliteit.

Nu het wereldkampioenschap in Australië wegvalt, zal het team in de komende weken op zoek gaan naar een nieuwe uitdaging om de prestaties van onze volgende zonnewagen aan te tonen. Het wegvallen van de Bridgestone World Solar Challenge geeft ons alvast de mogelijkheid om een nieuwe en innovatieve uitdaging te organiseren.

Zodra er nieuwe vorderingen zijn in deze uitdagende zoektocht brengen we iedereen op de hoogte van ons volgende raceavontuur!

No Solar Challenge in Australia,
new challenges ahead! 🦘

Last year, the rise of the Covid-19 virus has resulted in many changes and adjustments, and this was no different for our team. Since the beginning of the summer, our team has been working on the ninth Belgian solar car - the successor to the BluePoint - with the aim of defending our world title at the biennial world championship in Australia. Known as the Bridgestone World Solar Challenge, this one-of-a-kind 3021 km race is a thrilling challenge that pits student teams from top universities around the world against each other to be the first to cross the Australian Outback. Unfortunately, this week the race organizers decided not to have the Bridgestone World Solar Challenge take place this year. The next edition of the World Solar Challenge is scheduled for 2023.

A huge setback for our team that enthusiastically started designing the next solar car, with the positive hope that the world championship could take place next summer.

However, this sad news does not mean that our team will be idle in the coming months. Within a few weeks, we will start production of the next solar car, a car that will be even better and more efficient than all its predecessors. Innovation and developing new technologies for future generations remains a major motivation for the team. Above all, by building the next Belgian solar car, we want to demonstrate that there is a lot of future in sustainable energy and sustainable mobility.

With the World Solar Challenge in Australia cancelled, the team will be looking for a new challenge in the coming weeks to showcase the performance of our next solar car. The cancellation of the Bridgestone World Solar Challenge gives us the opportunity to organize a new and innovative challenge.

As soon as there are new advancements in this challenging quest, we will notify everyone about our next racing adventure!
